Charles E. Spaulding, Sr.

Charles E. Spaulding, Sr. 90, of Fowlerton, passed away in his home at 10:35 am on Friday, April 7, 2023. He was born in Gas City, Indiana, on Tuesday, February 7, 1933, to John and Carrie (Barton) Barton-Spaulding.  On October 12, 1957, he married Ranola “Dodie” Robertson, and she preceded him.

Charles attended Mississinewa High School and served 4 years in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following his military service, Charles worked at Owens Illinois until it closed, then worked at Hankins Container and eventually retired from Gen Corp. As a hobby, he built clocks and jewelry boxes. He loved watching NFL football, and sitting around looking at old family photos.

Charles is survived by his children, Michael (Sharon) Spaulding of Fowlerton, Pamela (Eddie) Clemons of Marion, Chuck (Kay) Spaulding of Marion; brother, Larry J. (Trudy) Spaulding of Marion; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Larry Simpson of Anderson; sister-in-law, Aloma Colbert of Marion; special friends, Tim and Vickie Hall of Gas City; as well as many nieces and nephews, and friends.

Along with his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl  Spaulding-Kemp; son, David Spaulding; brothers, John Spaulding, Buddy Spaulding, Tommy Spaulding, Ronald Spaulding; sisters, Mary Moyer, Stella Sinclair, Clara Kindle; grandson, Scott Joseph Musick; and great-grandson, Tad Brown.

At Charles’ request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.  Burial will take place at a later at Riverside Cemetery in Gas City, IN.
