Clayton Guy Andrick

Clayton Guy Andrick, of Marion, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, after a short illness. He was born on March 24, 1934, to Andrew and Martha (Burner) Andrick in Philippi, West Virginia.

Clayton graduated in 1952 from Philippi High School, where he played several sports. Shortly after graduating, he moved to Indiana, where he worked for General Motors, first in Indianapolis and then in Marion, until he retired. Clayton met his wife, Shirley (Harding), and they wed in 1956. He felt blessed to have been married to her for over 67 years. While working for Fisher Body, Clayton was a strong supporter of the union and served as an officer for several years. He remained active as a retiree continuing in several officer roles until his death. He also served as an officer on the CAP council since the mid-1970s until now. Clayton served on the city council for several years and was a true believer in the democratic process. After retirement, Clayton spent a lot of his time supporting voters by visiting nursing homes and shut-in people to help them complete absentee ballots. He loved sports and won awards for horseshoes and bowling. Clayton was a regular attendee of not only his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events but also Marion High School sports including football and basketball. Clayton was a member at the Moose Lodge in Gas City and the Marion-Grant County Senior Center, where he loved playing cards. He is probably playing a rousing game of Rook in heaven right now!

Through every death in the family, Clayton was there to help pick up the pieces. He was Andrick first, family and community second, and UAW third. He took great joy in any time spent with family and was the first one to jump in to help if any family had a need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Martha Andrick; his sisters, Carolyn Ann (Russell “Sonny”) Hotsinpiller, Edith (Andrew “Bub”) Trader, and Jean (Dale) Ruth; and great-grandson, Shawn Ryan Eby, II.

Clayton is survived by his wife, Shirley (Harding) Andrick; his siblings, Roger (Kathy) Andrick and Gladolene (Ronnie) Martin; his son, Guy; his daughters, Gay (Rick) Nieman and Marci (Nick) Derado; his grandchildren, Arin (Justin) Longfellow, Shirley (Ramon) Aguirre, Amber Andrick, Clayton Payne, Andrew Andrick, Cassie (Shawn) Eby, Nicholas (Becca) Derado, Jenna (Jamie) Minkler, Jesse (Kiersten) Neiman, and Rosa Derado; his great-grandchildren, Kirsten Pressler, Shane Pursch, Maddia Lehman, Haiden Lehman, Aliya Aguirre, Sofia Longfellow, Alex Aguirre, Kian Eby, Cameron Derado, Samuel Derado, and Colette Eby; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
