Charles “Charlie” W. Adams

Charles “Charlie” W. Adams, 88, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 8:35 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at the Marion VA Medical Center.  He was born in Fairmount to the late Irving and Margaret (Shattik) Adams on February 28, 1930.  He married his love, Dorothy (Evrard) Francis, on October 12, 1985, at Sunnycrest Baptist Church, where they both were members, and she survives.

Charlie loved jogging and long walks with Dorothy.  First and foremost, though, he loved the Lord Jesus Christ.  He was a good and godly man.  He and Dorothy loved singing in earlier years in the choir at Sunnycrest.

Charlie and Dorothy served a time in Tipton and Gaston, along with their Christian brother and sister in Christ, Harvey and Elsie Suddarth.  He and Dorothy also spent a few years at Grace Community Church and Liberty Baptist Church.  Charlie was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War.  He retired in 2001 from General Motors (Fisher Body) after 40 years.  He loved his family and was a wonderful husband, dad, granddad, and great-granddad.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; children, Ron (Kathy) Adams, Upland, Steve Francis, Hudson, Florida, W. Michael Francis, Marion, and Anthony (Sherry) Francis, Fishers; 4 grandchildren and 13 step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Allan (Joyce) Adams, Evelyn Goss, and Lois Blitton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 sisters, and 3 brothers.

The family will receive visitors from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services for Charlie will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the funeral home with Pastor Troy Bishop and Pastor Terry Bishir officiating.  Burial will follow at Marion National Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the joy that grandson, Seth Francis, and granddaughters, Kiley and Christa Francis, brought into Charlie’s life.  In later life, his great-grandson and special buddy, Aven Francis, would cut wood with Paps at the shed, wearing only a diaper.  What a joy that Rayleigh Marie and Jhett were also to Paps.
