Attempted Abduction Investigated—Cleared

WABASH, Ind. – On December 12, 2017, at approximately 4:12 p.m. Wabash City Police responded to a reported attempted child abduction.  Wabash City Police advised at the dismissal of Wabash Middle School a 10 year old female was exiting the school.  The juvenile female reported that a white male in a vehicle attempted to get her into his vehicle.  At the time of the report there was only a vehicle description.  However, Wabash City Police in cooperation with Wabash City Schools investigated the report.  Through the complex investigation and watching video surveillance cameras located at the school it was determined who the male in the vehicle was.  The investigation revealed that the male was a parent of another juvenile and was at the school to pick up his child.  After interviewing the parent it was determined that it was a case of mistaken identity.  The parent reported he thought it was his daughter he was trying to get in the vehicle.   Both juvenile females are very similar in height and weight.  Everyone involved was given the details of the investigation and it was determined that there was no criminal intent by anyone.  There will be nothing forwarded to the Wabash County Prosecutor.   At this time this case is considered closed.
