Woodrie Lorraine Hollars, 82, of Marion, passed away peacefully in her home at 2:22 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016. She was born on October 4, 1934, in Allred, Tennessee, to Perry Brawl and Ider Cantrell Brawl. Woodrie married Dooley Hollars on June 27, 1953, in Livingston, Tennessee, and he survives.

They moved to Indiana in 1955 and lived in Anderson at first, then in Marion and LaFontaine for a brief time before finally settling in Marion in 1965. Woodrie operated a cake decorating business from her home for a number of years, baking wedding, birthday, and special occasion cakes, as well as Christmas cookies and Easter sugar eggs for hundreds of residents in the Grant County area. She also worked at General Tire and Tulox Plastics before retiring.

Woodrie loved the Lord and served faithfully alongside her husband, who pastored several local churches throughout the years. The last several years they have attended Grace Community Church in Marion.

She loved and was committed to her husband and children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and will be dearly missed. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed feeding her family and friends—no one walked away from her table hungry. She loved to garden and grow things—especially flowers, care for her home, and was talented at sewing and crocheting.

She is survived by her children, Deborah (Denzil) Tyra, of Fairmount, Rickey (Monika) Hollars, of Marion, Brenda (Mark) McBride, of Swayzee, and Karen (Scot) Shelburne, of Peoria, Illinois; grandchildren, Julie (Aaron) Tyra King, Jennifer (Chris) Tyra Brown, Megan Hollars, Briana (Matt) McBride Buckley, Andrew McBride, Stephanie Shelburne, Sarah Shelburne, Emily Shelburne, and Lauren Shelburne; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Charles (Gaye) Brawl, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Sue Hollars; a brother, Carl Brawl; and sister-in-law, Carol (Charles) Brawl.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Colonial Oaks Rehabilitation Center, Heart to Heart Hospice, and to the doctors that provided such compassionate and excellent care over the last several years.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
