Roger Wayne Cavins

Roger Wayne Cavins, 64, of Huntington, Indiana, died at 7:22 am, Friday, March 17, 2017 at Coventry Meadows Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne. He was born August 6, 1952 in Harlan County, Kentucky to Jess Cavins and Anna Jean (Osborne) Cavins Shepherd.

Roger earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, had worked as a sheriff’s deputy in Perry County, Ohio, and worked for Ken-Coate in Huntington. He was a member of the VFW in Huntington and enjoyed fishing and working on cars. He especially loved his grandchildren. 

He is survived by two grandsons, Dominic Shively and Braden Rice, both of Huntington, his siblings, Carla (Kenneth) Black of Huntington, Barbie Butler and William Denver (Judy) Cavins, Sr. of Wabash, Melvin Norris of Huntington, and Jess (Mary) Norris and Joshua Cavins, both of Wabash, and Brandy Berryman of Huntington. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Katie Cavins, and his brother, Floyd Noland.

Funeral services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Ralph Johnson officiating.  Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Dementia Society of America.
