Richard Deane Mills, 71, died at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in Marion General Hospital. He was born in Marion, Indiana to the late Loren H. & Sarah L. (Blake) Mills. Richard was a 1963 graduate of Oak Hill High School. He married Susan G. Behnken on December 21, 1974. She survives.
Richard was a farmer and family man. Richard was a member of Hanfield United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Adult Bible Fellowship Visionaries Sunday School Class and faithful nursery worker. He enjoyed taking care of family and others, engineering equipment, and farming.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his daughter, Karen (Michael) Smith, Trafalgar; sons, Ryan (Amanda) Mills, New Orleans, and John (Betsy) Mills, Marion; Justin (Cindy) Carmack, Avon, who was like a son to him.
Richard is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Ulerick, Brooke Ulerick, Violet Mills, Ruby Mills, Avery Mills, Oliver Mills, Lexi Carmack, Marshall Carmack, Zoie Carmack, Zane Carmack, Mitchell Smith, Marcus Smith, Maxwell Smith; sisters, Sherlyn Gard, Fairmount, and Rebecca (Tom) Smith, Morgantown.
The family will receive visitors from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Avenue, Marion, IN.
A funeral service for Richard will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the funeral home with Gary Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
