Phillip R. Sisson, 86, passed away on December 10, 2016 in Millers Merry Manor, Marion. He was born in Marion to the late Robert M. and Thelma A.(McHaney) Sisson on February 3, 1930.

Phil was a 1949 graduate of Marion High School. He enlisted and honorably served in the United States Army and then served for 30 years in the United States Army Reserves. After his active duty in the army he continued his education at Indiana University, Bloomington and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in business. He married Margaret J. Webster on July 19, 1958. Mrs. Sisson survives in their Marion home. When he returned to Marion he began his career in real estate and was a self employed realtor and developer. His vision of growth for the community was a top priority to him that led to many projects including Raintree Plaza, the residential neighborhood, Shady Hills Estates and other projects that he was in professional assistance.

In his younger years, Phil was known as a dare devil, jumping out of helicopters, repelling, sailing, anything that was an adventure. He had a great sense of humor, a genuine smile and a generous spirit. He enjoyed socializing and truly took an active interest in other people, but most of all he was a loving, devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his daughters, Sydney R. Sweeney, Battlecreek, Michigan; Denise M. (James) Garrett, Marion; sister, Susan Booker, Fairhope, Alabama; 8 grandchildren, Kaitlen (Dale) Wilson, Kelly Sweeney, Daniel Sweeney, Ann Marie Sweeney, John Sweeney, Lacey Milton, Bailey Garrett and Emily Garrett.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Sisson.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 10:30am in Gethsemane Episcopal Church, 111 East 9th Street, Marion, Indiana.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 until services on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in the church. Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana was entrusted with the arrangements.

Private burial with military honors will take place at a later date in Marion National Cemetery.
