Melvin B. Jensen

Melvin B. Jensen, 88, Jonesboro, passed away at 1:09 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at University Nursing Center in Upland.  He was born in Des Plaines, Illinois, on November 9, 1929, to the late Willis V. and Rose M. (Wahl) Jensen.  On May 15, 1950, Melvin married Jacqueline “Jacky” F. Cobren, and with whom he was inseparable for 67 years.

After Melvin’s graduation from Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Illinois, he proudly served his country as a radio operator on the USS Requine in the U.S. Navy.  Following his military service, he was the supervisor at Omar Bakeries in Marion prior to his employment at RCA, where he retired also as a supervisor.

Melvin loved working in his yard, and he enjoyed fishing, camping, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He will be missed by his loving wife, Jacky; children, Jeris (James) Robinson, Gas City, and Michael (Leah) Jensen, Hernando, Mississippi; son-in-law, Phil King, Gas City; daughter-in-law, Shelly Ryman; grandchildren, Christie (Mike) Boggs, Marion, Corey (Becca) Robinson, Indianapolis, Chad Robinson, Gas City, Shannon (Jared) Sprinkle, Jonesboro, Shane Copeland, Muncie, Brian (Meagan) Fritch, Marion, Katie (Trevor) Cahill, Cary, North Carolina, Mackenzie (Josh) Regnier, Pensacola, Florida, Lindsay Jensen, Fort Wayne, Kerrigan Jensen, and Kellan Jensen, Hernando, Mississippi; several great-grandchildren, Kylee (Josh), Cody, Isaac, Isaiah, Raya, Draven, and Blaze; and siblings, Joann Kenny, California, Janet (Tom) Hennington, San Jose, California, and Donald Jensen, Colorado.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia King and Connie Copeland, and three brothers, Robert, William, and James Jensen.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 W. Kem Rd., Marion, IN, with Father Richard Weisenberger officiating.  Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
