Marie Bailey Burrous

Marie Bailey Burrous, 90, of Peru, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 11:30 AM on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Millers Merry Manor in Peru. Marie was born on Nov 7, 1926 in Decoy, Breathett County Kentucky to Sebern and Icie Bailey who preceded her in death.

Marie lost her hearing at the age of 2 ½ due to a childhood illness. She attended The Deaf School in Danville KY until her family moved to Indiana and she transferred to the Indiana Deaf School in Indianapolis.

Marie worked at General Tire in Wabash for over 40 years where she met her husband, Robert Wesley Burrous whom she married on December 16,1961 Robert survives her. She enjoyed her years at General Tire and made many lifelong friends. One of her favorite memories was being chosen as the parade queen for General Tire and riding on the float with her beautiful yellow dress.

After her retirement, she and Bob enjoyed winters at their home in St Petersburg Florida, spending time with her family. Marie and Bob enjoyed travelling over the world, some of the places they visited were all 50 states in their camper, a tour of Europe and Spain and many cruises. In the past few years, Marie enjoyed drinking coffee at McDonalds and visiting with friends.

Her deep love for her children, grandchildren and extended family was unconditional. She adored her family and was happiest when spending time with them

The eldest of 14 children, in addition to her parents, Sebern and Icie, she was preceded in death by in-laws Tony and Cleo Burrous and siblings Forrest, Carl, Coaet, Ray, Troy, Eddie,Morris, Lassie, Betty, Margaret and sister-in-law Jean Reinking

Surviving siblings are Ivera (Cecil) Mann, Beecher (Linda) Bailey, Sharon (Nathan) Marcum, sister-in-law Donna (Wayne) Jones and brother-in-law Thomas Reinking

In addition to her spouse Bob, Marie is survived by her daughters Ellen (Steve) Sawyer and children Olivia, Amy, Sarah, Erica and Mike; Sheila (William) Planck and children Tara, Nicholas, Mary and Zach; Therese (Mark) Watkins and sons Mark Joseph ll and Andrew; Lori(Donald) Richmond and children Jared, Lacy and Chloe. Marie is also survived by numerous Great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews that she loved deeply.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Tuesday, October 17, at Flowers Leedy Funeral Home 105 West 3rd Street Peru, IN. The funeral will begin at 1pm on Wednesday, October 18 at Parkview United Methodist Church 1785 State Rte 19, Peru, IN. Per Marie’s wishes, she will be cremated and buried at a later time at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru, IN.
