Manchester Community Schools Selects Jabin Burnworth as 2016-17 Outstanding Teacher

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Manchester Community Schools is proud to announce Jabin Burnworth as the 2016-17 Outstanding Teacher. Jabin has been a Manchester High School science teacher for 23 years. He currently teaches Biology 1, Anatomy & Physiology, and AP Environmental Science. His teaching also extends beyond the classroom, as he recently led a group of 24 AP Environmental Science students on a trip to the Florida Everglades.

Jabin has been very involved in the North Manchester community by serving on the Public Library Strategic Planning Committee, North Manchester Tree Commission, North Manchester Community Trail Network, and as President and Board Member at Large for the Environmental Education Association of Indiana. He was also selected to represent Wabash County and North Manchester as a Torchbearer for the Bicentennial Torch Relay. He was actively involved for 12 years at The Firehouse, an all-ages music venue connecting youth to music, where he spearheaded the task of booking live bands. Some of his past awards include, the 1999 Indiana Association of Biology Teachers “Creative Teacher of the Year” award and the National Park Foundation Park Stewards Grant.

Jabin was recently honored at a special luncheon for Senate District 17 outstanding teachers. State Senator, Andy Zay, hosted the event held at Indiana Wesleyan University with special guest speakers, Dr. Jennifer McCormick, State Superintendent of Schools and Dr. Stacy Hammons, IWU Provost/Chief Academic Officer. Attending the luncheon with Jabin were Manchester High School Principal, Dr. Jon Lippe and Manchester Community Schools Business Manager, Scott Bumgardner.
