Lawrence J. “Larry” Trexler, Jr., 50, went to be with the Lord in his Gas City home at 10:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, after a long battle with cancer.

Larry was born in Marion to Lawrence and Diane (Kepner) Trexler, Sr., and graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1984. He married Elisa Huston on August 4, 2012, and she survives.

Prior to serving as an Account Executive at Insurance Management Group for 13 years, Larry was an Account Executive for Mutual of Omaha. He was actively involved in the Grant County community, which included President of the Gas City Chamber of Commerce, former President of Kiwanis, and Board member at The River Church. He also held multiple positions with Mississinewa Valley Officials Association and IHSAA.

Larry was passionate about officiating. Over his 32-year career, he officiated high school and college football, as well as high school basketball. He was passionate about mentoring and developing young officials. Off the field, you could find him at Arbor Trace with his Tuesday morning golf buddies. Over the past twelve months, you could find him watching and supporting high school athletes, especially his niece, Adrianna, and her Oak Hill girls’ basketball team as they made their run to the state finals. Above all, he was a great man of faith who, even in spite of his own struggles, fought to bring others to a faith in Christ. He had a deep love and devotion to his family, to whom he was wholly devoted.

He is survived by his parents; his wife, Elisa; children, Ashley (Max) Rayn, Gas City, Adam (Jeannie) Trexler, Jonesboro, and Alexis (Kyle) Eccles, Jonesboro; step-daughter, Gabi Huston, Gas City; siblings, Brad Trexler and Stephanie Stinebaugh, both from Suffolk, Virginia, and Matthew (Nicole) Trexler, Swayzee; grandchildren, Jaci Trexler, Taelin Rayn, Adelin Rayn, Isla Trexler, and Kalli Eccles; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Leo (Maxine) Trexler and Richard (Maxine) Kepner.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at The River Church (former Lincoln Elementary), 759 S. Lenfesty Ave., Marion.

Services to celebrate Larry’s life are at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the church with Rev. Matthew Trexler and Gary Ashbrooke officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
