Karen K. Downam, 60, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at her residence. Karen was born on July 24, 1956 to Alonzo and Guenevere (Nall) Whelchel. She married Donald Downam on March 2, 1985. Karen worked as a nurse’s aide and earned her LPN, QMA, and CNA licenses.

Karen enjoyed reading and watching tv, especially Fox News and True Crime TV. One of her favorite things to do was to go motorcycle riding with her husband, Don. Karen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 95 in Jonesboro, Indiana.

Karen is survived by her husband, Don Downam, Marion, Indiana; 2 daughters, Dorian Campbell, Marion, Indiana, and Anna Delks, Jonesboro, Indiana; son, Damian Jones, Marion, Indiana; 3 brothers, William “Bill” Whelchel, Marion, Indiana, Sam “Kevin” Whelchel, Bitley, Michigan, and Rick Whelchel, Marion, Indiana; 3 sisters, Verna Downam, Upland, Indiana, Linda Crosby, Marion, Indiana, and Susie Krieg, Goshen, Indiana; and 5 grandchildren, Dallas Delks, Dawnali Delks, Deborah Campbell, Timothy Campbell, and Demetrius Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Guenevere Whelchel; 4 sisters, Ann Alexander, Wilema Valenzuela, Kathy Phelps, and Loretta Bilby; and 2 brothers, Von Dale Whelchel and Von Gale Whelchel.

Arrangements for Karen have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, Indiana 46953.  A visitation has been set for Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a service honoring Karen’s life to follow at 12:00.  Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
