Joseph “Joe” A. Byrd, 41, Gas City, died in an automobile accident at 6:13 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2016, in Fairmount. He was born in Marion, IN, to George and Patricia Irene (Lewis) Byrd.

Joe was a 1993 graduate of Mississinewa High School, and he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne. Joe was employed at Metric Engineering in Florida. He took great pride in his career as an engineer, and he loved tinkering with electronics.

Joe was an avid sports fan, and his favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati Reds. More than anything, Joe enjoyed helping others and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Byrd, Gas City; godmother, Rebecca E. Simmons, Gas City; father, George Byrd, Fairmount; maternal grandmother, Lena Lewis, Jonesboro; special uncles, Gary (Roxanne) Lewis and Danny (Triela) Lewis; several cousins and friends; his dog, Maya; and his two cats, Milwaukee and Memphis.

Preceding Joe in death was his maternal grandfather, Paul Andrew Lewis.

Family and friends may call from 4-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services for Joe will be at the funeral home at 12:00 noon on Friday, February 26, 2016, with Rev. Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Gas City.
