Harvey O. Schwartz, 81, of Berne, IN, passed away at 5:12 PM, Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo, IN, of lung complications. He was born on June 18, 1935 in Berne, IN to Adam and Mary (Bontrager) Schwartz. He married Mary Chupp on June 20, 1965 in Berne, IN and she preceded him in death on June 15, 2006. Harvey was a carpenter and manufactured windows and doors. In his retirement years, he was known for his fishing and his many little sayings that often rhymed. Surviving is a daughter Karen (Wesley) Gingerich of Kokomo; 4 sons Adam (Deborah) Schwartz of Berne, IN; Harley (Sherri) Schwartz of Shipshewana, IN; Philip (Rosetta) Schwartz of Shipshewana, IN and Perry (Katie Ellen) Schwartz of Topeka, IN; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers Levi (Barbara) Schwartz of Berne, IN; Jerome (Josephine) Schwartz of Nappanee, IN and Martin (Edna) Schwartz of New Paris, IN; 3 sisters Lydiann Hilty of Berne, IN, Edna Hochstedler of Topeka, IN and Clara Hilty of Berne, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, 2 grandchildren Krystle Gingerich and Angela Schwartz; 2 sisters Sarah (infant) and Pollie; and 2 brothers Alvin & Dan Schwartz. Services will be 9:30 AM, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Merlin Hilty residence,1757 South 200 West, Monroe, IN with Walter Schwartz and Melvin Hochstetler officiating. Burial will be in the Schwartz Cemetery, Berne, IN. Viewing will be Thursday 2:00 PM-8:00 PM and Friday 10:00 AM-8:00 PM at the Merlin Hilty residence. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 North Main Street, Amboy, IN.
