Charles L. Ervin, Sr.

Charles was born in Marion on July 28, 1926 to the late Wilman and Lucille (Hanley) Ervin. He passed away in Marion General Hospital on May 9, 2016.

Charles was a WWII United States Army veteran. He was awarded the Army of Occupation medal and the WWII Victory medal. He spent most of his life in Marion and worked for Farnsworth and later retired from RCA in 1987. Charles was a talented carpenter and accomplished building his family their home. When his children were small he coached little league and instilled in them a strong work ethic. In his free time he enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, visiting the Senior Center, telling jokes and making people laugh and vacationing in Texas nearly every year. Charles will be remembered as a dedicated family man and dedicated father.

He is survived by ten children, Pamela Arrendale, Cindy (Dennis) Creech, Christopher (Angela) Ervin, all of Marion; Charles Ervin, Jr., Jeffersonville, Indiana; Daniel (Irene) Ervin, Thedalles, Oregon; David (Deanna) Ervin, Lake Dallas, Texas; John (Donna) Ervin, Angela Rangel and Denise (Patrick) D’Spain, all of Roanoke, Texas; 36 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; former wife and mother of Charles’ children, Florence C. Shaver.

Charles is also preceded in death by his son, Timothy Ervin.

Graveside services will begin at 10:30am on Friday, May 13, 2016 in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery. Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana was entrusted with the arrangements.
