Catharine Carnes, 65, of Andrews, IN, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016, at 12:00 a.m. at her residence in Andrews, IN.

Catharine was born on December 17, 1950, in Columbus, IN, to Hubert and Marie (Hummel) Fry. Her father preceded her in death. Her mother, Marie, survives in North Vernon, IN. She married Mark Carnes on June 25, 1977. He survives in Andrews, IN.

Catharine was a 1968 graduate of St. Wendelin High School in Ohio. She earned her BA degree as a Registered Nurse from Ohio State University and her Masters at Indiana University. She worked as a registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist. When she began having a family she became a homemaker and full time home educator. She was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, IN, and a Third Order Dominican with her religious name being Sr. Catharine Mary, T.O.P.

Along with her husband, Mark, and mother, Marie, she is survived by five sons, Samuel (Hannah) Carnes, Biloxi, MS, Gregory (Liana) Carnes, Boise, ID, Michael (Nancy) Carnes, Schenectady, NY, Joseph (Madeleine) Carnes, Columbia City, IN, Stephen Carnes, Andrews, IN; three daughters, Rachel (Louis) Ullmer, Green Bay, WI, Mary (Brad) Owens, San Diego, CA, and Lucy Carnes, Rockyhill, CT. She is also survived by two brothers, George (Jackie) Fry, Port Clinton, OH, Daniel (Mel) Fry, Advance, IN; four sisters, Bridget (Bill) Moeller, Spring, TX, Margaret (Jerry) Tipps, Houston, TX, Barbara (Tom) Pruitt, Fairland, IN, Jennifer (Matt) King, Fishers, IN; and 13 grandchildren.

Along with her father she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Rita Carnes and Louis Paul Ullmer; one brother, Samuel Fry; and one sister, Ruth Golovine.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.  Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m.

A Traditional Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 3333 E. Tillman Road, Fort Wayne IN 46816.

Burial will be in Mt Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers Memorials or Mass Stipends may be made to the Traditional Dominican Order in care of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 3333 E. Tillman Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46816.
