William E. Stoffel

William E. Stoffel, 91, of Huntington, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 7:40 p.m., with his beloved wife, Barbara, at his side at The Heritage of Huntington, Huntington, IN.

William was born on October 20, 1926, in Huntington, IN, to Frank and Mary (Gill) Stoffel.   His parents preceded him in death.  William married Barbara Lee Bonebrake on June 28, 1952, at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Fort Wayne, IN. His wife of 65 years survives and resides in Huntington, IN.

Mr. Stoffel was a farmer in Huntington and Wabash County for many years.  He was owner of Pure Seal Dairy. William served in the United States Navy.   After retirement his family developed Lake Forest Subdivision.  Bill was a life-time member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, IN.  He loved Notre Dame, IU, and UNC sports.   He loved traveling, fishing and watching horse racing.  Bill was a wonderful husband – he loved to tell people one of his great accomplishments was being married for 65 years.  He also loved to garden and the bigger the garden the better.  Growing tomatoes was his favorite.  He was a very handy guy, he could fix anything.

Along with his wife, Barbara, he is survived by one son, Bill (Cindy) Stoffel, Roanoke, IN; two daughters, Suzanne (Alton) Harp, Wake Forest, NC, Carol (James) Cryderman, Huntington, IN; two brothers, Gene (Gloria) Stoffel, Syracuse, IN, James (Renee) Stoffel, Amelia Island, FL; one sister, Helene Craig, Huntington, IN; 7 grandchildren, Dana (Kelly) Burden, Michael (Leslie) Cryderman, Andrea Pierce, Jenny Cryderman, Ericka (John) Gualtieri, Tom (Jessie) Stoffel, Joe (Alicia) Stoffel; and 10 great grandchildren, Leah, Jack, Ava, Logan, Adam, Adele, Keeley, Brianna, Elena and Ezio.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Stoffel, Harry Stoffel; and three sisters, Sr. Collette Stoffel,  Kay Lorence and Peg Kramer.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN  46750.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held during the calling hours at 4:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Additional calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, prior to the Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington, IN.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to Masses SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church or Cancer Services of Huntington County in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.
