William E. Hilty, 72, of Berne, IN, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 4:32PM at Parkview Regional Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born in Adams County, IN on December 23, 1945 to Pete & Elizabeth (Hostetler) Hilty. He married Ida M. Gingerich on April 10, 1980 in LaGrange County, IN, she survives. William was an auctioneer and owner of Hilty’s Dry Goods in Berne for many years. He was a member of the Old Order Amish.
He is survived by his wife-Ida M. Hilty, Berne, Son- Phillip I. (Carolyn) Hilty, Berne, 2 grandchildren-Karissa Hilty and Karsten Hilty of Berne, Brother-Amos (Maggie) Hilty, Bluffton, Joni (Emma) Hilty, Geneva and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter-Becky I. Hilty, siblings-Lydia Schwartz, Anna Schwartz, Mary Schwartz, Elma Schwartz, Emma Hilty, Joe Hilty, Levi Hilty, Dan Hilty, Menno Hilty, Emma Wickey, Frannie Schwartz, and Toby Swartzentruber.
Viewing hours will be held at William’s residence 2401 S. US 27 Berne on Monday, June 4, 2018 from 4-8PM and Tuesday, June 5, 2018 from 9AM-8PM at William’s residence. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 9AM at John Hilty residence 1878 S. US 27 Monroe. Funeral services will be conducted by Bishop Eli Hilty and Amish undertakers Henry Eicher and Jake Schwartz. Burial will be at the Schwartz Cemetery in Berne.
