Walter L. Wood, 85, Gas City, passed away at 9:30 am on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. He was born in Jonesboro, Indiana, on Wednesday, September 1, 1937, to Lewis and Edna (Legg) Wood. On March 1, 1982, he married Karen S. Glass, and she survives.
Walter graduated from Mississinewa HS and attended Arizona State University. He owned and operated Walter Wood Realtors where he was a Realtor/Appraiser in the Grant County community. He was a member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge 109 and a former member of the Realtor Association of Central Indiana. He loved playing golf, watching IU Basketball and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren.
Along with his wife, survivors include his daughter, Wendi (Jim) Gooley; son, Walter (Shelli) Wood, II; five granddaughters, Kyla (Shaun) Kelly, Greer (Jose) Cortes, Kaylinn (Ramon) Gonzales, Macy Gooley, Reilly Gallogly; three grandsons, Walter L. (Katie) Wood, III, Tommy (Genevieve) Gooley, Sean L. Gallogly; and great-grandchildren, Brylie, Rose, Rory, Mila, Isabella, Sofia, Mia, Lucia, Colette, Lawson and Margot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Edna Wood; sister, Pamela J. Obenchain; and nephew, James Lee Obenchain, II.
The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Masonic Service to take place at 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Walter’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, November 11, 2022, at the Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel. Pastor Brian Mauller will be officiating with burial following at Riverside Cemetery.
