Vernal “Marcella” Swan, 96, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 1:32 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. She was born in Epsom, Indiana, on Friday, June 11, 1926, to Claude and Gladys (Carroll) Waggoner. On August 1, 1947, she married James W. Swan, and he preceded her in death in 2013.
Marcella graduated from Epsom High School and attended Frankfort Pilgrim College. She was a bookkeeper for DeWeese Appliance Sales and Service and a member of Hanfield United Methodist Church. Gardening was one of her favorite hobbies. Above all things, Marcella loved her Lord Jesus and her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn (Michael) Swan-Mere of Marion; sons, James “Jim” (Cynthia) Swan of St. Petersburg, FL, and David (Kambi) Swan of Statesville, NC; son-in-law, Daniel Siders of Wabash; 17 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; brother, John (Iris) Waggoner; sister-in-law, Marilyn Waggoner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Donna Siders; brother, Bob Waggoner; and two sisters, Frieda James and Wilma Reynolds.
The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A funeral service to celebrate Marcella’s life will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the funeral home. Pastor Ryan Budde will be officiating with entombment following at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
