Vada Lee Nixon

Vada Lee Nixon, 96, of North Manchester, Indiana, died 12:50 am, Friday, May 21, 2021, at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester. She was born on April 25, 1925, in North Manchester, to Ira L. and Lottie (Lautzenhiser) King.

Vada received her bachelor degree from Manchester College. She married Frank S. Nixon in North Manchester on September 15, 1947; he died August 16, 2015. Vada was a homemaker and also gave piano lessons in her home, since the age of 13. She was an associate member of Tri Kappa, a member of the Manchester Business and Professional Women Association, played in the Manchester College Symphony, was choir director at the North Manchester Evangelical United Brethren, and was an active member at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the music program.

She is survived by four children, Cheryl Nixon of Plymouth, Indiana, Paula (Bruce) Thoma of Valparaiso, Indiana, Noel (Loretta) Nixon of Logansport, Indiana, and Eric (Melissa) Nixon of Pendleton, Indiana, thirteen grandchildren, Andrew (Sanja) Thoma of West Bend, Wisconsin, Adam (Alisha Noah) Thoma of Danville, Indiana, Claire Thoma of Indianapolis, Indiana, Aaron (Heidi) Nixon of Fortville, Indiana, Andrew (Quirsten) Nixon of West Lafayette, Indiana, Sarah Nixon of Logansport, Indiana, Joseph (Monica) Nixon of Apex, North Carolina, Stephen (Kira) Nixon of Burnettsville, Indiana, Jonathan (Alex) Nixon of McCordsville, Indiana, Anna Nixon of Spokane, Washington, Tyler Nixon and Christopher Nixon, both of Pendleton, and Allison (Curtis) Silvey of Chesterfield, Indiana, 5 great grandchildren, and her sister, Margaret “Joyce” Haney of Winona Lake, Indiana. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and two grandchildren, Noelle Thoma and Nicholas Thoma.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 113 W. Main Street, North Manchester, with Pastor Amy Beitelschees-Albers officiating. The family asks that masks be worn. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester.

Preferred memorial is Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
