Thomas “Tom” Dean Piper, 74, was born in Marion, IN on October 22, 1947 to Lottie J. (Morrison) Piper and Vestle D. Piper. Tom worked at Dana as an electrician for 37 years. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan Piper; children Jay (Tammy) Piper, Jim Piper, Jessica (Mike) Small, Christina (Andrew) Hayes, and Rodney Snipes.
His grandchildren include Clinton Piper, Ashley (Zac) Filson, Tiffany Randol, Tyler Small, Connor Hayes, Levi Snipes, and Dillon Snipes. Great-grandchildren are Bailey Randol, Isabelle Randol, Emmalynn Small, Leland Snipes, Jordan Snipes, Brooklyn Snipes, and Ensley Snipes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Ace Piper.
Tom attended many schools in Kentucky and Indiana. Starting kindergarten in Swayzee then returning during high school to graduate from Swayzee. Most of his extended family is in the Bowling Green Kentucky area. He traveled from the east coast to the west coast and from Canada to Mexico and Key West, mostly, on one of the Harley Davidsons he owned but also the motor home as well.
He never met a stranger and was very active in his community. He was a 50-year member of the Swayzee Volunteer Fire Department, Swayzee EMS, Lions Club, a Past Master of Swayzee Masonic Lodge, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Past Patron of Swayzee Chapter 345 Eastern Star, Shriners, Swayzee United Methodist Church, Dana Camping Club, Life member of the HOG chapter and an avid golfer.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner-Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington Street, Swayzee, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Tom’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Masonic Rites. Burial will take place at Thrailkill Cemetery.
