WABASH,Indiana – We all know that hearing a certain song or seeing a certain old friend can take you right back to a previous time in your life. The same goes for food. And that’s exactly what long-time residents of Wabash can do starting today at 11 am when the new Curb-A-Teria restaurant opens to the public. The new place, which is the first brick-and-mortar Curb restaurant since 1990, is located at 445 S. Wabash Street where the former Wabash Donut Shoppe did business until roughly six weeks ago. Owner Jim Johnson told MiBash News that the extreme time frame to get the business up and running has been a “wild trip.”

While the new Curb opens for the general public today, the restaurant held a “soft open” on Saturday for invited guests, former employees and others who mostly had a previous connection with the Curb-A-Teria. The staff of MiBash Radio were all invited to attend this soft launch and be some of the first ones to welcome the eatery back from a 26 year brick-and-mortar hiatus. And judging by the number of people in the Curb on Saturday, Johnson and his staff should be plenty busy over the next few months.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Who wants a bite of my Curb Burger?

For those long-time residents who have not eaten at the Curb On Wheels food truck in the last few years, Monday’s opening will represent a chance to travel back in time to days of yore. The Curb Burger, with its triple-decker bun, two beef patties totaling 1/3 lb., lettuce and horseradish sauce will no doubt bring back some memories for those who have lived in town at least since the 1980s.

While the new location certainly has fewer seats that the old place on Manchester Avenue, the kitchens are larger than what you’d expect for such a small building. Nancy Lewis, the former night manager at the Curb-A-Teria, was there on Saturday and said that nothing has changed.

Johnson on why people should come out and try some of the legendary food The Curb has to offer.

While parking may be a bit of a problem, Johnson reminded readers that there are 12 parking spots on the property and that customers can park on Wabash Street in front of the fence on the old Dairy Queen lot. He also said that the Curb On Wheels will still be going to various events over the summer months. The Curb’s hours are 11 am until 8 pm Monday through Thursday and 11 am until 10 pm on Friday and Saturday. Unlike back in the day, The Curb has a website which can be found at www.thecurbburger.com.
