WABASH, Ind. – The Thanksgiving holiday leads many families to travel across the state and country to see family and friends. The Wabash City Police wants to remind citizens of a few safety tips for traveling and tips to keep their home safe while they are gone.

When you leave your home speak with your trusted neighbors and let them know you will be gone. Have timers on a lamp in your home so that it turns on and off. Have someone pick up your mail and newspapers. Lock all doors and windows in your home.

If you are traveling plan ahead. Plan your route and notify your family what route you will be traveling on. Make sure your vehicle is ready for the trip by ensuring proper vehicle maintenance. Charge your electronic devices before your trip. In case of inclement weather check road conditions on your route. While driving please be patient and give yourself extra time to arrive at your destination. When you arrive at your destination remove all valuables from your vehicle and lock your car.

As always buckle up and drive sober. The Wabash City Police wish everyone safe travels throughout this holiday season.
