Susan J. Melton, 76, of Amboy, passed away at 4:46 am on Monday, July 10, 2023, in the house of Gregg and Jessi with family at her side. She was born in Westbrook, Maine, on Saturday, September 7, 1946, to Frank L. Graham and Katie (Laplante) Johnson. In 1965, she married James Melton, and he survives.
Susan graduated from Westbrook High School in Maine and worked in VLS for nine years at Thomson Consumer Electronics, retiring in 1998. Susan also drove a school bus for many years at Oak Hill Schools and touched the lives of many kids. She was known for her “no-nonsense attitude”. She enjoyed her garden and flowers, as well as vacationing to many places with family, including trips to Westbrook, Maine. She also looked forward to her daily morning coffee in Amboy with friends. Susan was an excellent artist and was voted most athletic female in her high school class.
Susan is also survived by her sons, James (Dawn) Melton of Monroeville, Barry Melton of Decatur, and Gregg (Jessi) Melton of Marion; sisters, Bette (Goran) Ahlenius of Sweden, Kathy Johnson of Cape Elizabeth, ME, and Candice Johnson of Westbrook, ME; brothers, Robert Johnson of Westbrook, ME, and Thomas Johnson of Westbrook, ME; granddaughters, Holland (Michael) Pritchard, Delainey Melton, Tommi Melton, and Sydnie Melton; grandsons, Braden Melton, Grant Melton, and Lucas Melton; great-granddaughter, Skyelar Pritchard; and great-grandson, Michael “MJ” Pritchard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ivan Johnson; and grandson, Zachary Melton.
At Susan’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.
Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
