Steven Cain

Steven “Steve” Cain, 72, passed away at his home in Warren, Indiana, at 11:36 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. He was born in Marion, Indiana, to the late Robert Eugene “Gene” and Mary (Brumfiel) Cain.

On December 6, 1969, he married Linda (Tinkle) Cain. Steve and Linda lived in Sweetser, Indiana, for more than 50 years and also lived in Douglasville, Georgia, from 1988-1990. In 2020, they moved to the Heritage Pointe Dogwood Glen Villas in Warren, Indiana.

Steve graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1968 and, following high school, served in the National Guard. He also served on the Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years as a firefighter. Throughout his adult life, Steve worked for several companies including Hartson-Kennedy Cabinet Top Co., Dunn Water Conditioning (formerly Servisoft), JGBowers, S&S Fire Apparatus, and he retired from Amtrak.

After Steve accepted Christ as his Savior in 1999, he and Linda joined Liberty Baptist Church in Sweetser, where they attended for many years. Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, water skiing, playing and watching baseball, watching NASCAR and Indy 500 races, playing Euchre and Dominoes, training his cocker spaniels, Savannah and Piper, and spending time with his friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; daughters, Shawnda (Keith) Freer and Tina (Robert) Croft; grandchildren, Hannah Croft, Andrew Freer, and Sarah (Grayson) Mays; sister, Judy (Lloyd “Bud”) Jennings; and brothers, Richard “Dick” (Darlene) Cain and Tim Cain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene (Mary) Cain, and his granddaughter, Meghan Freer.

A private memorial service will be held with Pastor Terry Bishir officiating. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion, Indiana.

The family would prefer that no flowers or gifts be sent. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, P.O. Box 289, Sweetser, IN 46987 and/or Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 399, Sweetser, IN 46987.
