Shirley R. Pollen, 76, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Shirley was born on February 10, 1942 in Jonesboro, Indiana, to Oliver and Clara (Oram) King. She married Dwight Charles Pollen on November 14, 1959. Together they raised four children. Shirley attended Mississinewa High School. She later worked for the Fairmount Police Department for almost 30 years, retiring in 2000. She was a faithful member of the Fairmount Church of God for over 40 years, and was involved in many church activities. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing computer games, and cooking. She enjoyed making birthday cakes for her grandchildren. She also loved taking pictures of her family. Her family admits that if it wasn’t for Shirley always taking pictures, they probably wouldn’t have very many. Shirley got into researching genealogy and really enjoyed learning about her ancestry.
Shirley is survived by her spouse, Dwight Pollen, Fairmount; son, Michael (Kelly) Pollen, Alexandria; son, Kenneth (Karen) Pollen, Fairmount; daughter, Deborah Pollen, Hanahan, SC; son, Greg (Cindy) Pollen, Fairmount; 8 grandchildren, Jeremy Pollen, Stacy Pollen, Cory Pollen, Brittany Rosenbush, Amanda Burkholder, Megan Pollen, Chelsea Wallace, and Griffin Pollen; 9 great-grandchildren, Madelyn Rosenbush, Jaxson Rosenbush, Bentley Burkholder, Braxton Burkholder, Annabelle Wallace, Stella Wallace, EmiLeigh Pollen, Christine Hess, and Ellie Pollen; and sister, Mary Catherine King. A special thank you to Gail Ford for the loving care she gave her aunt Shirley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Clara King, and three sisters, Grace Ford, Betty Cassidy, and Martha Mitchener.
Arrangements for Shirley have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services Fairmount Chapel, where a visitation will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairmount Church of God, 114 N. Walnut St., Fairmount, Indiana 46928, with Pastors Bill Cornell and Robin Riggs officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery.
