Shirley Fay Coots, 79, of Wabash, Indiana, died , Monday, June 12, 2023, at her home. She was born on June 11, 1944, in Wise, Virginia, to James and Mary (Collins) Statzer.
Shirley married Worley G. Coots on December 24, 1960 in Wabash; he died January 7, 1999. She worked different jobs throughout her life, Wagner’s, Magnetics, United Technologies, sold Partylite Candles, but the job she loved most was babysitting her grandchildren. Shirley attended several churches throughout her life and remained religious and full of faith. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, watching TV, gardening, and collecting Snow Babies. Shirley was a social butterfly and enjoyed spending time with her family..
She is survived by three children, Steve Coots of Lagro, Indiana, Vickie (David) Metzger of North Manchester, Indiana, and Leah (Troy) Poland of Wabash, three grandchildren, Kassie (Kiowa) Harrell of North Manchester, Hayden Metzger of Wabash, and Karlie Poland of Wabash, and one great-granddaughter, Nora Harrell of North Manchester. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Thomas Coots, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Rev. Tim Prater officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Friends may call 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm, Thursday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Animal Shelter of Wabash County.
