Shelvia J. Hetzler, 81, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 4:47 pm, Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City, Indiana. She was born on December 15, 1940, in Wabash, to Marcellus W. and Thelma L. (Casper) Wilcox.
Shelvia was a 1958 graduate of Urbana High School. She married William Howard “Bill” Hetzler at the Silver Creek Church of Christ on May 11, 1963; he died March 11, 2018. She owned and operated Classic Beauty Salon and also did a great deal of after hours work at nursing homes and for shut-ins. Shelvia was a member of the Wabash Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School and loved playing the piano and organ at the church. She always encouraged youth to participate in musical activities. Shelvia enjoyed sewing, gardening, and flower gardening.
She is survived by her son, Erik (Dawn) Hetzler; two grandchildren, Nathan Hetzler and Lilah Hetzler, all of Plainfield, Indiana; and her brother, Gary (Hilda) Wilcox of Urbana, Indiana. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, December 16, 2022, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Josh Merrick officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Lagro. Friends may call 12:30-2:00 pm Friday, at the funeral home.
