Marcell Mills, Sr.

Marcell Mills, Sr., 90, Marion, passed away at 11:40 am on Friday, December 9, 2022, in his home. He was born in Brownsville, Tennessee, on Friday, September 23, 1932, to Ruben Mills and Marshall (Thomas) Duckworth. On March 25, 1955, he married Ruthanna “Ruth” Lett, who preceded him in death on November 22, 2016.

Marcell proudly and honorably served his country in the US Army during WWII and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He achieved the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1954.  Following his military service, Marcell was a manager for over 40 years with Food Marketing/Cubberley’s Distribution in Marion. Marcell enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching sports. He was an avid Chicago White Sox and Purdue fan. More than anything, Marcell was a dedicated family man and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include his sons, Marcell (Clarissa) Mills, Jr., of Indianapolis and Michael Mills of Marion; daughters, Marsha A. (late Thomas) Wise of Arlington, TN, Michele Mills of Carmel, Marneda (Darwin) Wise of Rockford, IL, Myla Mills of Marion, and Mary J. (Mark) Wilson of Fishers; sisters, Artis Duckworth of AZ, Viola (Paul) Campbell of Marion, and Shirley (Chester) Johnson of Marion; sister-in-law, Rosie Duckworth Garner; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; plus several nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his loving wife, Marcell was preceded in death by his father, Ruben Mills; mother, Marshall Duckworth; twin son, Jimmy Mills; twin daughter, Janie Mills; brothers, Livingston Mills, Donnell Duckworth, Clarence T. Duckworth, and Charlie Duckworth; and sisters, Tishie Pearl Thomas, Angel Walker, and Genora Duckworth.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, December 19, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Marcell’s life will begin at 1:00 pm.  Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
