Roscoe David Varney

Roscoe David Varney, 65, Sweetser, passed away at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, surrounded by his family in his home. He was born in Williamson, West Virginia, on Thursday, July 25, 1957, to Roscoe and Maxine (Turnmire) Varney.  On December 24, 1984, he married Karen L. Coats, and she survives.  

Roscoe graduated from South Gate High School and worked in assembly for 25 years with General Motors in Fort Wayne.  He was a member of American Legion Post 95 in Jonesboro.

Roscoe loved hunting, fishing, camping, and restoring classic cars. Two of his favorite pastimes were watching NASCAR and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family. Bella and Buford were his two fur babies, who will continue to be a thorn in Karen’s side. He loved spending time with his whole family, especially his grandkids. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.  

In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his son, Buck J. (Brittain) Varney of Marion; daughter, Julie A. (Shannon) Stiles of Peru; grandsons, Turner, Atticus, Andess, Anthony, and Alistair; and granddaughters, Adia and Annalee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lola Hoffheins.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Roscoe’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.  Burial will take place at Converse Cemetery.
