Ronald “Wayne” Sapp

Ronald “Wayne” Sapp, 87, Jonesboro, passed away in his home at 8:20 pm on Friday, October 16, 2020. He was born in Jonesboro, Indiana, on Sunday, April 23, 1933, to Leroy “Ike” and Vera (Pearson) Sapp. On October 29, 1960, he married Lenora Stephenson, who survives.

Wayne was a lifetime resident of Jonesboro and graduated from Mississinewa High School 1953 and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, Wayne worked as a fork truck driver for 32 years with Dana Corp., retiring in June 1, 1992.

Wayne attended Eastview Wesleyan Church where he was baptized at 80 years old. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing, Euchre (playing games in general),and sitting on his porch feeding the squirrels and birds. He loved raising beagles and even had the nickname “Hound Dog”. Wayne was a great athlete in school and grew up an avid Chicago Cubs, Indiana Pacers, and Indianapolis Colts fan. He was married to Lenora, the love of his life for almost 60 years this month and loved his grandkids and family dearly. He was a people person who never met a stranger and everyone knew him. He had a big heart and loved giving his time. He had a great sense of humor and will be dearly missed.

Survivors also include his son, Merrill D. (Teresa) Miller of Avon; daughters, Sherrill (Rodney) Howard of Van Buren, Elayne (Chuck) Kenworthy of Gas City, and NoraLe Kellogg of Gas City; grandsons, Matthew (Shanna) Miller, Zachary (Mickey) Miller, Brian (Mae) Howard, Ben Batman, Brad Batman, Daniel Kellogg, and Andrew Kellogg; granddaughters, Mary Hebner, Katie Kenworthy; and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy “Ike” and Vera Sapp; and brother, Jack Sapp.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Eastview Wesleyan Church, 414 North 10th Street, Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a Funeral Service to celebrate Wayne’s life will begin at 12:00 pm with Rev. Ken Dykhoff officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
