Rodney Kim Hanes, 66, of Peru, Indiana, died at 11:14 pm, Monday, July 3, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born on August 1, 1956, in Wabash, Indiana, to Elmer Hanes and Opal Katherine (Wray) Adams.
Rod was a 1974 Mentone High School graduate, received his Associates degree from Ivy Tech in Kokomo, and was a US Army veteran. He married Sharon L. Copeland in Warsaw, Indiana on December 25, 1981. He worked at Chrysler Corporation, retiring in 2015, after 27 years. Rod enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, especially Double Bid Euchre, and loved spending time with his grandkids .
He is survived by his wife, Sharon L. Hanes of Peru; four children, Jason (Cindy) Hanes of Etna Green, Indiana, David (Wendy) Hanes of Mishawaka, Indiana, Benjamin (Olivia) Hanes and Stacey Hanes, both of Peru; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sisters and brother, Karen Hanes of Kokomo, Indiana, Larry (Donna) Hanes and Marj (Terry) Harmon, both of Warsaw, and Paula (Leon) Brown of Miramar Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call 3-7 pm Friday, July 7, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash. The service will be private.
