Roberta “Joan” Martin (nee Tedder), age 88, of Marion, Indiana, passed away at Lutheran Hospital on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. Joan is survived by her children: John (Sherrie) Martin, Angela Martin, and Melissa (Mike) Rockel; grandchildren: Kristen (Nick) Ruddell, Taylor Martin, Ethan Rockel, Austin Rockel, Madison Martin, and MacKenzie Martin; and great-grandchild: Rilynn Joan Ruddell, who was her sunshine.
Joan was born in Marion to Robert and Ruby Tedder on October 17, 1933. She married John L. “Buddy” Martin on April 8, 1966, and he preceded her in death. Her six siblings preceded her in death. She is survived by many special family and friends.
Joan was born and raised in Marion, Indiana, and cherished it her whole life. She graduated from Marion High School in 1951 and enjoyed every class reunion with her friends. She worked hard her whole life working at a soda shop, American Security, Walmart, MHS as a teacher’s aide, Bank One, and then volunteered at YMCA after retirement. She was a proud member of First Christian Church, where she was involved in every aspect of the church. She was always putting others first and serving everyone in need. She was a member of Church Women United and St. James Bible Fellowship.
The family is grateful to Northwood Manor staff and the Ailes Team private care providers who cared for her in her declining health.
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A funeral service to celebrate Joan’s life will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at First Christian Church, 1970 N. Wabash Rd., Marion, IN. Pastor Haley Asberry will be officiating with burial taking place at Grant Memorial Park.
