Robert J. “Bob” Haecker

Robert J. “Bob” Haecker, 70, of rural North Manchester, Indiana, died at 2:21 pm, Thursday, March 29, 2018 at his home. He was born July 13, 1947 in Peru, Indiana to Harry Vercil Haecker and V. Colleen (Grumpp) Haecker Summers.

Bob was a 1966 graduate of Northfield High School. He married Chris K. Pugh in Wabash on August 12, 1971. He was a US Army veteran serving in Vietnam and received the purple heart during his tour. Bob was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Roann Niconza Christian Fellowship Church, the Laketon American Legion Post 402, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, collecting toy tractors, gardening, raising ducks, riding in his gator, and especially spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Chris K. Haecker of North Manchester; four children, Tammy Haecker of Winona Lake, Indiana, Bobby (June) Haecker, Ronnie (Tricia Howard) Haecker, and Sonya (Brian) Hammons, all of North Manchester; nine grandchildren, Michael (Amber) Burkey of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, Nicholas (Jaclyn) Burkey of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Christopher Rymer of Omaha, Nebraska, Cassie (Larry) McClelland of Warsaw, Indiana, Emily Haecker, Braydon Sewell, and Bailey Sewell, all of North Manchester, Bre Howard of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Shawna Howard of Indianapolis, Indiana; three great grandchildren; brother and sisters, Doris Moore of Somerset, Indiana, Bonnie (Duane) Caudill of Silver Lake, Indiana, and Tom (Amy) Haecker of Wabash; sister-in-law, Ruth Haecker of Morton, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, William “Bill” Haecker.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Phil Medsger officiating. Burial will be in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana. Friends may call 2-7 pm Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Riley Hospital for Children.
