Robert G. Walker, Sr., 88, Swayzee, passed away at 1:52 am on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. He was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia, on Wednesday, July 26, 1933, to John and Ella (Wilson) Walker. On April 5, 1953, he married Bertha M. Blake, and they shared 60 years together before she preceded him in death on August 18, 2013.
Robert was a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1951-1955. Following his military service, he was an inspector for General Motors until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Sweetser Wesleyan Church and Fisher Body Sympathy Club. Robert was an unofficial greeter at Meijer and Walmart, who always greeted everyone with “God bless you!”
Survivors include his son, Robert G. (Susan) Walker, Jr., of Converse; daughter, Kathy Abraham of Franklin; granddaughters, Breanna (Matthew) Scott of Anderson and Whitney White of Marion; and half-sister, Janet Delinski of Sopherton, GA.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald Walker and Jackie Walker; sisters, Patricia Blessing, Joyce Southard, and Joan Donavan; half-brother, Charles Walker; step-brother, Kenneth (Peggy) Barrick; and son-in-law, David Abraham.
The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, November 15, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, a funeral service to celebrate Robert’s life will begin at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor Matt Steward will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
