Richard “Rick” E. Bomholt

Richard “Rick” E. Bomholt, 65, Gas City, passed away at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne at 5:20 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018.  He was born in Elwood on October 28, 1952, to the late Jerome and Clara (Redenbaugh) Bomholt.  He married Cathy Schmidt on March 19, 1983, and she survives.

Rick retired from Mississinewa Community Schools in 2009 after 35 years of teaching.  While at Ole Miss, he held a variety of coaching positions including the head coach of both varsity tennis and golf, freshman football, as well as the assistant coach of the varsity basketball team.  Following his retirement, he was an adjunct professor at Indiana Wesleyan University.

He was also actively involved at First Christian Church, where he was a member, elder, Sunday School teacher, past Board chair, sound tech, and assisted with VBS.  Additionally, Rick served in his community as past president of the Gas City Library board and as past councilman of Gas City.

Rick was an avid golfer, and he also enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and hiking.  Most of all, though, Rick loved his family and spending time with them as much as possible.

He will be missed by his loving wife of 35 years, Cathy; children, Patrick (Kimmy) Hanrahan, Boynton Beach, Florida, Michael (Stacy) Hanrahan, Pickerington, Ohio, and Christopher (Karis) Bomholt, Marion; siblings, Michael (Judy) Bomholt, Elwood, Mary Ann (Robert) Barr, Elwood, and Jerry (June Dee) Bomholt, Hanover; grandchildren, Cade, Cole, and Connor; mother-in-law, Carolyn Schmidt, Gas City; sister-in-law, Dianna (Gary) Dickson, Mason, Ohio; many loving nieces and nephews; and his dogs, Princess and Prince.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patty Howey, and father-in-law, Wayne Schmidt.

The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate Rick’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at First Christian Church, 401 E. N. D St., Gas City, IN.  Pastor Dave Shephard will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
