Richard Joe Hardcastle, 85, Swayzee, went to be with the Lord in his home at 12:28 pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. He was born in Frankton, Indiana, on Monday, December 20, 1937, to Herbert and Emma (O’Neal) Hardcastle. On May 12, 1963, he married Judith Barker, who survives.
Joe graduated from Swayzee High School and served in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Corporal. Following his military service, he worked at Delco Remy until his retirement. He loved God, his family, working outside, tinkering, and taking care of his cats–all with a cup of coffee.
In addition to his loving wife of 60 years, survivors include his daughter, Amanda (Jerry) Gephart of Swayzee; son, Richard J. (Sheila) Hardcastle, Jr., of Westfield; granddaughter, Snezhana Hardcastle of Westfield; brothers, Jay (Fran) Hardcastle of Swayzee and Robin Hardcastle of Oak Harbor, WA; sister, Colleen Twichell of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, IN.
A service to celebrate Joe’s life will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the funeral home with additional visitation beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the service. Ed Bridegroom will be officiating with burial taking place at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
