Rebecca “Sue” (Davis) Hostetter

Born March 27, 1936, Rebecca “Sue” (Davis) Hostetter, age 86, left our earthly home On Eagles Wings and is now Standing on Holy Ground as of March 27, 2022. Sue, daughter of the late Robert and Leathe Young, was born and raised in Marion, Indiana, graduating from Marion High School and attended Baldwin-Wallace College (Conservatory of Music) where she majored in piano performance with a minor in Church Music, primarily organ. Sue began her musical career at the age of 5 and was still playing for the residents at Suite Living throughout these past two years. She shared her love of music with countless students over the years, entertained at special events, played for the Marion Easter Pageant for numerous years and accompanied the Marion High School 26th Street Singers as well as many musicals over the years including West Side Story and The Sound of Music at the Ritchie Walton Theatre. Her first love, however, was being the pianist/organist for church beginning with the First Church of the Nazarene, St. John’s Lutheran Church, and most recently, St. James Lutheran Church for the past 34 years. One of her greatest joys was leading the children and teen choirs as well as accompanying several adult choirs. Sue was always one to show Amazing Grace to those around her—always portraying a positive attitude and encouraging others.

The Love of God was honored when Sue married Reverend L. George Hostetter on December 28, 2002, and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2010. Sue was a professional pianist sharing her love of music with veterans at the VA Hospital through music therapy and playing the piano and organ for visitation and services at Raven-Choate Funeral Home as well as others in the community. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Marion Lyric Club and later in life volunteered with Heart to Heart Hospice.

“Count your blessings name them one by one” and she would faithfully pray for each in her family. She is survived by three daughters, Pam (Steve) Wilson of Westfield, Karen (Brian) Maine of St. Peters, Missouri, and Sherlyn Hurley of Indianapolis; a brother, Robert Young of Phoenix, Arizona; 7 grandchildren, Tyler (Jaime) Wilson, Shane (Jennifer) Wilson, Preston (Lyndsey) Davis, Joshua (Samantha) Hurley, Brian (Jordan) Maine, Jr., Callaway Maine and Carrington Maine; 11 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Cathy Danyluk, David (TJ) Riggs, Cindy (Jim) Zutaut and Steve Young.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robert M. Davis; a sister, Margaret Ridley; nephews, William Riggs and John Danyluk.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Frederick Hearn officiating. Burial will follow funeral services in Estates of Serenity Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
