Rachel Lou Purdy, 87, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 1:06 pm, Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Parkview Wabash Hospital. She was born on December 8, 1935, in Wabash, to Roy Christian and Daisy (Lewis) Schuster.
Rachel married Lawrence Marvin Purdy at the Southside E.U.B. Church in Wabash on August 19, 1953. She was the head cook at the Wabash County Hospital and also cooked at the Country Village Restaurant in Wabash. Rachel loved to talk and tell stories. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, being outdoors, bird watching, flowers, and especially loved her husband, children, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Purdy of Wabash; two children, Jeni (Denny) Tomson and Nick (Donna) Purdy, both of Wabash; six grandchildren, Dr. Nathan (Wade) Tomson of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Tiffany (Danny) Barton of Andrews, Indiana, Nick (Stephanie) Purdy Jr. of Marion, Indiana, Anthony (Lyndsay) Purdy and Jessica (Andrew) Pattee, both of Wabash, and Vincent Purdy of Denver, Colorado; 13 great grandchildren, Hunter Barton, Connor Tomson, Lilly Barton, Nicholas Purdy III, Danielle Purdy, Taylor Tomson, Ariana Pattee, Alexander Pattee, Noah Purdy, Adalena Pattee, Aveline Purdy, Brock Purdy, and Asher Purdy. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
A Celebration of Rachel’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash.
