Preston “Howard” Stone

Preston “Howard” Stone, 82, Sweetser, passed away at 5:30 pm on Friday, February 26, 2021, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. He was born in Glen Dean, Kentucky, on Tuesday, July 5, 1938, to Preston and Margaret (Baxter) Stone. On July 7, 2007, he married Linda Lewis Warner.

Howard attended Bosse High School in Evansville and was a self-employed plumber throughout his life, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He was known for regularly telling stories, and he enjoyed hunting, as well as watching football and NASCAR. He also loved his family very much.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Stone of Sweetser; son, Greg (Inez) Connors of Fairmount; daughter, Kimberly Stone Vanyo of Sweetser; daughter-in-law, Chris Connors of Sweetser; sisters, Rita (Gary) Gillespie of Peru, Sue (Gary) Gambrell of Peru, Barbara Alexander of Dade City, FL, and Rebecca Crawford of Dade City, FL; grandsons, Joel D. (Amanda) Bouse, Cory Todd (Jamie) Davis, Adam Rice, Gabe Rice, Benjamen Connors, Matt Connors, and Nick Connors; granddaughters, Cassandra (Nate) Fratus, Laurie Connors, Sharon Beckman, Serenity Connors, Fabienne Connors, and Aurora Connors; 3 step-children; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Minnie B. Stone; son, JR Connors; and brother-in-law, David Crawford.

The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Avenue, Marion, IN.

A funeral service to celebrate Howard’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at the funeral home. Pastor Mick Simpkins will be officiating with burial taking place at Grant Memorial Park.
