Phyllis J. Farmer

Phyllis J. Farmer, age 84, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Phyllis was born April 10, 1933 in Frankfort, Indiana the daughter of the late Leon and Ruth (Myers) Smart.  She married Ralph Esto Farmer in 1952 and he preceded her in death in 1984.  Phyllis was a forklift operator at General Tire Corporation for 25 years until her retirement in 1993.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church; the United Rubber Workers #466; S.O.A.R.; Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 7437; A.A.R.P.; Moose Lodge #35 in Marion; Alliance of Retired Americans; N.A.A.C.P.’ Grant County Central Labor Council; and was a board member of the United Way.  Phyllis was a staunch Democrat and was a recipient of the Indiana Community Service Award.  She was also involved in the First Presbyterian Church in Jonesboro and the Temple Congregational Church bible study group.

She is survived by a son, Emerson Scott Farmer (Laura) of Marion; daughters, Rebecca Parrott of Tampa, Florida, and Joyce Ann McGee (Rob) of Charlotte, N. Carolina; sisters, Diana Fay Griffith of Marion and Kathy Jane Brawner (Dennis) of Clinton, Arkansas; 6 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Walter James Farmer; a daughter, Michalina Bailey; a brother, Everett “Buddy” Smart; and sisters, Esther Ruth Smart, Lela Mae Hunter and Mary Louise Smith.

Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Father Richard Weisenberger and Reverend Laurie Wolcott officiating.

Catholic Burial will take place in Scioto Burial Park, McDermott, Ohio at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018 with Father Nicholas Droll officiating.
