PERU, Ind. – Monday, January 23rd at approximately 2:00 p.m. the Peru Fire Department was called to the area of 6th and Wayne Streets in Peru for a report of a possible house fire. The caller advised that smoke was coming from the second story windows. Once on the scene, firefighters forced entry through the front door. Inside firefighters encountered heavy smoke on the first floor and located fire towards the back of the structure. The fire was quickly extinguished. The fire caused extensive damage to the first and second floors of the structure. No injuries reported. The structure was vacant at the time of the fire.
