Perry W. Herring

Perry W. Herring, Sr., 84, Marion, passed away in his home at 6:13 pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. He was born in Grant County, Indiana, on Sunday, April 17, 1938, to Theodore and Goldie (Horner) Herring. He married Mary Francis Smith on April 15, 1960, and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2022. 

Perry attended LaFontaine High School and worked at Bell Fibre for 38 years, where he was a forklift operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. 

Perry enjoyed fishing and also loved to offer his services as a volunteer at the VA hospital. He was a very involved member at Lighthouse Assembly of God, serving as head of the Sunday School and as head usher. 

He is survived by his son, Perry (Kimberly) Herring Jr. of Euless, TX; granddaughter, Makala (Zach) Morgan; grandson, Blake (Tawny) Maloy; great-granddaughters, Sophie Morgan and Saxon Maloy; brother, Theodore “Ted” E. (Marjorie) Herring; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Lee Herring; brother, Paul Herring; and sisters, Betty Herring and Ruth Hiney. 

The family will receive visitors from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. 

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Perry’s life will begin at 11:30 am with Rev. Jerry Gallaway officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
