Paz Madarang Farrales Estacio

Paz Madarang Farrales Estacio, 94, Marion, went to be with the Lord in her home at 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.  She was born on July 14, 1924, in Manila, Philippines, to the late Cecilio and Maria (Madarang) Farrales.  She married her husband, Manuel G. Estacio, who preceded her in death in June of 1981.

Paz received her bachelor’s degree from Manila Central University and master’s degree at the University of the Philippines.  She was a chemistry professor at Far Eastern University, as well as a pharmacist.  She owned a canteen and pharmacy that serviced metro Manila.  She later joined her siblings in the U.S. around 1969.  Here, she began her career as a pharmacy tech at various facilities in Chicago, IL, and Fort Wayne, IN.  Paz was a compassionate individual and throughout her life could be found taking care of others in times of need.  She was a devout Catholic.

Paz was a brilliant individual who kept her mind sharp by her love of reading.  She could not wait to get her hands on a Danielle Steele novel.  She was a generous gift-giver for all occasions while keeping in mind practicality.  She also enjoyed collecting.  Some of her collections included stamps, coins, and porcelain dolls.  Paz loved keeping in touch with friends and family and, therefore, talked on the phone quite often to find out what everyone was up to.  Her true passion was in the kitchen either cooking or baking for family and friends.  She was notoriously known for her puto (rice cake), leche flan, and lumpia shanghai.  More than anything, Paz loved her family and cherished the times she could spend with them.

She is survived by her sons, Manuel Arnolfo (Lorna) Estacio, Hobart, IN, Manuel Rodolfo (Brenda) Estacio, Chicago, IL, and Manuel F. Estacio, Jr., Marion, IN; grandson, Francis (Carina) Estacio, Hobart, IN; granddaughters, Maripaz (Bert) DeCastro, Hobart, IN, Thelma (Elmer) Mariano, Hobart, IN,  Janelle Smith, Kendallville, IN, Crystal (Jim) Harrington, Chicago, IL, and Emerald (Dave) Salinas, Orland Hills, IL; and great-grandchildren, Mika, Danielle, Danita, Iona, Trisha, Justin, Kaiz, Kenjie, Brandon, Victoria, Grayson, Jimmy, Dean, Alyssa, and Elias.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Dolores Espino, Brena Carpio, Augusto Farrales, and Robusto Farrales.

A memorial visitation for Paz will be held at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 4646 N. Austin Ave., Chicago, IL 60630.

Arrangements are entrusted to Integrity Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, IN.
