Orpha (Bernice) Williamson

Orpha (Bernice) Williamson, 86, of Peru, returned to the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. She was a wife, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, a great-great grandmother… but most importantly, a daughter of God.

Daughter of Nettie and Albert Filson, Bernice was born in Adrian, Michigan on October 6, 1931. She would go on to marry Rev. James Williamson in 1954, leading to a marriage of 48 years, until his passing in 2002. Together, they would raise 6 children.

Bernice was an active member of her church, spending her time reading her bible and being with family, all while running a household. She worked as a cook at Dukes Memorial Hospital in the 70’s and 80’s.

She is survived by her daughters Kathy Anthony (Rick), Pam Hiles (Ron), and Jodi Oaks; son Brad Williamson (Sabrina); 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Albert Filson, Ruth Wilson, Melba Burnett, and Bonnie Proffitt; husband, Rev. James Williamson; children Jane Townsend (Harold), and James Williamson Jr. (Gail survives); and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will follow immediately after, officiated by Rev. Ralph Johnson. Burial will be at Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Logansport (Cass County), Indiana.
