Norman (Norm) L. Patterson

Norman (Norm) L. Patterson of Peru passed away on January 1, 2019 after a brief illness. He was 93.

Born to the late Russell and Mary (Butzin) Patterson on September 9, 1925, Norm was a brother to six siblings: Henry (Bud) Patterson, James Patterson, Thene Chandler, Mary Lennon and Emma Lennon, all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by one brother, Ray Patterson of Peru.

Norm enlisted in the military at the age of 17.  He served in the 82nd Airborne, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment as a paratrooper.  His regiment fought in many major campaigns during WWII.  He later worked and retired from Square D / Schneider Electric after 40+ years. Norm enjoyed farming, camping, and woodworking – but most importantly, people. Norm never met a stranger.

His biggest achievement and enjoyment in his life was raising his three children: Charles Patterson (Sharon), Sara Wooten (Mike Graves) and eldest daughter, Jenny Hann who preceded him in death from his first marriage to Rozena (Hiers) Hudson in 1950, who survives. In 1970, Norm married Betty Jean (Norris) Patterson who preceded him in death after 40 years of marriage. From that union, he gained three step-children: Gerry Jackson (Crystal) of Fort Wayne, Jim Jackson and Nancy Franklin preceded him in death.

Norm is survived by two grandsons: Justin Patterson (Chris), and Seth Wooten (Stephanie); five granddaughters: Patty Terrell (Danny), Dawn Smith (Darrell), Angie Baker (Brian), Jessica Arwood (Scott) and Gwen Wolfe. Also, several nieces and nephews, great and great-great grandchildren and step-grandchildren. One grandson, Andrew Charles Hann preceded him in death.

A celebration of Norm’s life will be held from 11am- 2pm on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Funeral service will follow at 2pm, with Pastor Jim Rairigh officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru.  Military service will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.
