Charles L. “Sonny” McClain

Charles L. “Sonny” McClain, 86, of Amboy, passed away at 10:23 A.M., Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Titusville, PA on February 8, 1932, the son of Charles Coleman and Rachel Faye Roberts McClain. Sonny married Delores Grim on August 23, 1952 in Wabash, IN and she survives. Sonny was a graduate of Converse High School and an US Army Korean War Veteran. He was a retired Dana Corp. employee and was also a building contractor, building numerous homes in the Amboy area. Sonny was an active member of the Amboy community serving as a Boy Scout Leader, volunteer fireman and he served several term on the Amboy Town Board. He also served as a school bus driver for the Oak Hill Community School System. Family was paramount to Sonny and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. Through the years, he made wooden Christmas gifts for all of his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. Surviving in addition to his wife of an eventful 66 years, Delores, are children Roger (Victoria) McClain of Marion, Cindy (Delbert) Perdieu of Rochester, Timothy (Joan) McClain of Amboy, Annette (Jeff) Long of Amboy, Tamara (Michael) Holland of Celina, OH and Robert (LaShawn) McClain of Amboy; grandchildren, Jennifer McClain, Brody (Tammi) McClain, Aaron McClain, Christopher McClain, Shanna (Kent) Barns, Kaylynn (Jeramy) Ennis, Ryan (Victoria) Long, Brandy (Kurk) Camden, Ashley (Todd) Pond, Jaquelin (Casey) Wuethrich, Brittany (Mike) Horner, Briana (Zach) Tutarow, Amy (Tracy) McKee, Rusty (Danna) Perdieu, Brian Perdieu and Daniel (Alissa) Perdieu; thirty-eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a brother Dennis McClain of Ft. Wayne and a sister Jane Herbster of Mt. Vernon, KY. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, three brothers and a great-grandson. A service celebrating the life of Charles L. “Sonny” McClain will be held at 10:30 A.M.. Monday, January 7, 2019, at the Amboy Friend Church, 110 E. Pennsylvania St., Amboy with Pastor James McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Bond Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 1:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 North Main St., Amboy. Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Miami County Military Rites Unit Endowment Fund.
