Nedra “Jo” (Deeter) Banter

Nedra “Jo” (Deeter) Banter, 87, died Saturday, February 2, 2019, in Heritage Pointe, Warren. She was born in Grant County, the daughter of the late Everett H. and Ruth E. (Pearson) Deeter.

Jo graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1949. She married Francis Banter on June 17, 1950. Together, they shared 34 years, before he preceded her in death on November 18, 1984.

Mrs. Banter was a bus driver for Eastbrook Community School Corporation for 19 ½ years and a 4-H leader for several years. She was a member of Oak Chapel United Methodist Church where she enjoyed being involved with the United Methodist Women. She was also a founding member of the Timeless Treasures Red Hat Society.

Survivors include two daughters: Cinda (Marc) Mitchener, Fairmount; and Lori (Kevin) Boyer, Van Buren; a brother: Jerry Deeter, Upland; two granddaughters: Amanda (Ben) Olynger; and Alyssa (Blake) Rigdon; two great grandchildren: Pearce and Penelope Rigdon, with two more, Baby Olynger and Baby Rigdon, on the way; a niece, Jeri Dorsey; and two great nephews: OJ and Jonathan Dorsey.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Karen Deeter.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019, from 4-7 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, February 8, 2019, at 10:00 am, at the funeral home, with Rev. Al and Rev. Ginny Soultz officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland.
